A Brief History.
If you are reading this in the year 2009, then you are one of the few of a future many, to know of Zen Seven at its roots. These are a few words on the basis of Zen Seven.
Zen Seven Skateboards is based off of my photography, using my more abstract photos as the canvas of the board. I had the logo made by a graphic designer that would have a timeless appeal to consumers, the designer did it as a favor as he has faith in what I do and what I can do. The gas mask deck is based off a photo done in my gas mask photo series (www.micahweber.com/emotion). The money clip is based off a simple photo of a money clip with a hundred showing on top with bills folded underneath it. The boards are made and printed in Arizona, by Polestar Distribution. I go to local parks and skate with kids and people ask what I am skating all the time, so I am able to hand out cards and let them know about the boards. I received the first set of decks in July this year, and sold out of the 1st stock of gas mask decks within a couple weeks (with most sales coming out of the trunk of my car). A local skateshop that has 2 locations, are on board and I have my boards in the shops to sell, as well as a huge 20x30 poster ad I did in studio. The concave took me a day or 2 to get used to, once i did i loved it and anyone that has skated a Zen deck has come back for more. Has such a nice tail and the nose being slightly bigger.
Basically I have taken two passions, skateboarding and photography, and combined them together to chase my dream of doing something I love for a living. Thus Zen Seven. Using my creativity and personality, I feel as though this could go far. Anyone that knows me in person knows I have the ability to make you laugh or interested in something I am doing. I feel as though I can do this because I have the confidence in what I am doing and it’s just full of so much positivity, that not many can deny the good thing that it is. I have almost 400 fans on facebook which is a good start. I have people buying them just to hang in their homes or office. I also was at a skatepark and had a random best trick contest for some kids and gave away a deck. I love being able to be in a position to make some kids day, by having a chance for a free board. I sell them for $35 locally which is good price to start out with, and I may go to $40 next year, not sure. I usually check out kids decks at parks and when I see a really worn out deck, I’ll give them a barely used deck of mine and it makes their day. I love it, they love skateboarding, I do, it’s all good and everyone's happy.
I get emails all the time for kids wanting me to sponsor them. Since I am just starting out I can't sponsor them all and just give a ton of boards away, but so far I am with one guy, Shayne Witmer. When he skates at parks, kids stop and watch and that's the kind of thing I love about it. Making kids happy and bringing them something they can love and enjoy. The decks have unique looks to them and I hope it really grows.
So far I have shipped to Ireland, Norway, Australia, England and Switzerland. I can’t WAIT to see pics of the boards in action over there
I have so many ideas and there's so much more to come. I have shirts being made right now and I can’t wait to see them. The support locally has been great, and someday I hope it’s the same worldwide.
